ریشه لاتینی محتمل یلدا

اصل یلدا را میشود برگرفته از یویال دِی لاتین یعنی روز شادی خدایگانی نیز گرفت. بدین ترتیب یول اروپایی ها و یلدا به هم میرسند.
jovial (adj.)
1580s, "under the influence of the planet Jupiter," from Middle French jovial (16c.), from Italian joviale, literally "pertaining to Jupiter," and directly from Latin Iovialis "of Jupiter," from Iovius (used as genitive of Iuppiter) "Jupiter," Roman god of the sky (see Jove). The meaning "good-humored, merry," is from astrological belief that those born under the sign of the planet Jupiter are of such dispositions. Related: Jovially. diurnal (adj.)
late 14c., from Late Latin diurnalis "daily", from Latin dies "day" + -urnus, an adjectival suffix denoting time (compare hibernus "wintery"). Dies "day" is from PIE root *dyeu- "to shine" (cognates: Sanskrit diva "by day," Welshdiw, Breton deiz "day;" Armenian tiw; Lithuanian diena; Old Church Slavonic dini, Polish dzień, Russian den), literally "to shine" (compare Greek delos "clear;" Latin deus, Sanskrit deva "god," literally "shining one;" Avestandava- "spirit, demon;" Lithuanian devas, Old Norse tivar "gods;" Old English Tig, genitive Tiwes, see Tuesday).
